Watermills

The first five generations of our HEADs have all lived in villages with watermills (Great Wishford, Broughton, Eling, Millbrook, and Romsey). One has to wonder if our early HEADS were millers, millwrights, or some trade associated with mills?

Great Wishford (Wiltshire) is on the River Wylye (pronounced 'Why-lee') which is a tributary of the River Avon

Broughton (Hampshire) is on Wallop Brook which is a tributary of the River Test.

Eling and Millbrook (Hampshire) are on the River Test where it enters Southampton Water.

Romsey (Hampshire) is on River Test just a few miles above Eling.

I recently found a few HEAD and WHITEHORN families that where millers according to information found on Millers of Hampshire at

http://www.hampshiremills.org/History%20-%20%20Millers%20of%20Hampshire%20name%20sorted.htm

None are my direct lineage, but I'll bet they are related. Does anyone have more information about these folks
