Collectible Cowboy Movies - Used VHS tapes

VHS001 - $10.00 - Collection of 4 John Wayne favorites:

1. Stagecoach (1939) B&W, 96 min. - John Wayne. A simple stagecoach trip is complicated by the fact that Geronimo is on the warpath in the area.

2. True Grit (1969), Color, 128 min. - John Wayne. A drunken, hard-nosed U.S. Marshal and a Texas Ranger help a stubborn young woman track down her father's murderer in Indian territory

3. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) B&W, 118 min. - John Wayne & Jimmy Stewart. A senator, who became famous for killing a notorious outlaw, returns to a funeral of a homeless man and tells the truth about his deed.

4. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) Color, 103 min. - John Wayne. Captain Nathan Brittles, on the eve of retirement, takes out a last patrol to stop an impending massive Indian attack.

1. HOLLYWOOD: OUT WEST ( 1980) B/W & C, 60 min. A look at the history of the Western, with emphasis on Tim Mix, William S. Hart, Art Acorn and Harry Carey. The focus is on the making of THE COVERED WAGON (1923) and THE IRON HORSE (1924). Clips include: TUMBLE WEEDS (1925), THE MASSACRE (1912), HELL'S HINGES, THE GREAT K & A TRAIN ROBBERY (1926). Narrated by James Mason. Interviews with John Wayne, Yakima Canutt, and others.

2. Cowboys of the Saturday Matinee (1984) B/W & C 75min. Narrated by James Coburn, features Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Roy Rogers, Jimmy Wakely, John Wayne, and more

3. Wild Westerns - Back to the Saturday Matinee (1989) B/W & C 82min. Join host Tony Thomas as he takes a nostalgic trip back in time to consider some of the movies and the stars who lit up the lives of youngsters at the Saturday matinee including heroes Buck Jones, Randolph Scott and Ken Maynard. Also includes a complete version of the 1934 "In Old Santa Fe."

VHS003 - $15.00 - Collection of 3 Cowboy Artists:

1. Portrait of Charles M. Russell: Preserver of the Old West. Features paintings and rare photographs of the artist, storyteller, humorist, and cowboy, Charlie Russell (1864--1926). 23-minute video.

2. The Man They Call Will James (1990) B/W & C 29 min. An intimate view of an enigmatic and colorful man who created a life and lived it -- first on a horse and then, vicariously, through his art and writing.

3. Charles M. Russell: An American Artist (1982) Color, 20 min. - "Charles M. Russell was one of the foremost in documenting the American West. By the time he was 16 he followed his dreams to the mountains and plains of Montana, where he lived the life of a hunter and cowboy. Sketching and modeling were just a hobby for him, but he captured the West exactly as he saw it. Over the next 40 years, Russell created a treasure of American art-a record of the West so rich and personal that it remains as vivid for us today as it was for him at the turn of the century.

VHS005 - $12.00 - Collection of 4 old time B&W cowboy favorites:

1. Rustlers' Roundup (1933) B&W, 56 min. - Tom Mix & his horse Tony. Winters is after the Brand ranch and his man Brett who is foreman there is rustling the Brand stock.

2. Hell's Hinges (1916) B&W, 64 min. - William S. Hart. When Reverend Robert Henley and his sister Faith arrive in the town of Hell's Hinges, saloon owner Silk Miller and his cohorts sense danger to their evil ways. They hire gunman Blaze Tracy to run the minister out of town. But Blaze finds something in Faith Henley that turns him around, and soon Silk Miller and his compadres have Blaze to deal with.

3. Powdersmoke Range (1935) 72 min. - Harry Carey, Bob Steele, Hoot Gibson, and more. New ranch owners Tucson, Stony, and Lulaby find their legal papers missing and cattle rustled. The culprit is Ogden and his stooge Deputy Glascow. When the trio fight back, Ogden brings in Saunders, the fastest gun around who Tucson agrees to meet at sundown.

4. Strawberry Roan (1933) B&W, 59 min. - Ken Maynard & his horse Tarzan. The mares Jim Edwards are losing is being blamed on a wild horse when it is actually his foreman Hawkins. Colonel Bownlee offers his ranch to anyone who can ride this wild palomino. Ken takes up the challenge and also seeks the real thief. Tarzan is featured in the two best parts of the movie, horse fights. The horse fights looked quite realistic, & either they were real, or Tarzan is quite an accomplished actor.

VHS006 - $10.00 - 2 Tributes to cowboy movie heroes:

1. Roy Rogers, King of the Cowboys (1992) B/W & C, 80 min. - A film tribute to Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Trigger using archival film clips and contemporary interviews.

2. John Wayne the Duke Lives On: A Tribute (1980) B/W & C, 80 min. A tribute to the greatest box office attraction Hollywood has ever known. With rare early photographs and movie clips from some of John Wayne's most outstanding roles, this tribute traces the remarkable life and career of the man the world came to know as "The Duke".

VHS007 - $10.00 - Collection of 3 stories about the West... Real & Mythical:

1. The Legendary West (1976) B/W & C, 60 min. Ben Johnson shows us how the film industry glamorized the West and how real cowboys, believing the stories, modeled themselves after the image created by the movies.

2. America: A Look Back - The Real West 60 min. Hosted by Tom Brokaw of NBC News, the series uses vintage photographs to recall the places, faces and events that have illustrated American history. The first show covers the period from 1849-1900 when pioneers, gunslingers, 49ers and outlaws populated the west. This episode is narrated by Gary Cooper.

3. The West That Never Was (1989) B/W & C, 58 min. Narrated by writer Tony Thomas. Hollywood's Vision of the Cowboys and Gunfighters.

The above tapes were purchased from the original legal distribtor, and are in the original boxes. I have watched them only a few times, but they are used.
