William AVERY b. abt 1818; Hastings, Sussex, England; m. Ann Leighton AUSTINE December 1844. Ann Leighton AUSTINE was b. abt 1817; c. 11 Nov 1817, in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. She is the daughter of David AUSTINE and Elizabeth REEVES (SEE the AUSTINE family for continuation of this line).

The children of William AVERY and Ann Leighton (AUSTINE) AVERY are:

i. Mary Elizabeth AVERY b. abt 1845 Charlton , Kent, England. She never married, and lived with her father until he passed away.
+ii. Susannah AVERY b. 12 Sep 1848 Lee, Kent, England; c. 8 Oct 1848 Saint Margaret, Lee, Kent, England. (in the Registration District of Lewisham), Kent, England. See Stephen John Head for contiuation of this line.
iii. Henry Wm. AVERY b. 4 Apr 1850 Lee, Kent, England; c. 5 May 1850 Saint Margaret, Lee, Kent, England. Occupation carpenter.

Notes for William Avery:

William's occupation at in 1848 is listed as coachman. His occupation in 1876 is listed as gentleman.

When the1851 census was taken William was in Lee, Kent, England; his sister Charlotte b. abt 1814/15 in Hastings, Sussex, England; was living with his family at that time.

Ann Leighton Avery died 22 JUL 1884 aged 66 in Farnham Royal, Eton district, Buckinghamshire, but what she was doing there we don't know.  Perhaps one of the grandchildren had or was seeking a place at Eton!!!  The reference is Sep 1884 Eton Vol 3a Page 355.

Notes:

Susannah's death certificate reveals that she died 5 MAR 1921 at 8 Porthall Place, Preston, Brighton Susannah Head 70 years, widow of Stephen John Head, foreman coppersmith. Cause of death: cerebral hemorrage, informant: Ethel M. Head, daughter present at the death, and of the same address.

Notes from Ron Foster about Hastings Cemetery, the final resting place for William and Anne Leighton Avery:

Anne Leighton Avery died aged 66 and was buried on 22 July 1884 at Hastings Cemetery Div D.
 
William Avery died aged 83 and was buried on 3 January 1902 also at Hastings Cemetery Div D.
