MC NEIL FAMILY

Scotland to Goderich Ontario

Generation 1

Duncan MC NEIL b. 1820/23 in Scotland; religion - Baptist (wife was Presbyterian); m. Margaret MCDONALD (likely circa 1853/54. Margaret McDonald b.ca.1831/33 in either PEI or Scotland; died Wednesday December 7,1881 in Goderich, aged 48 years and 3 months (The Huron Signal, Goderich, 9 December, 1881, p.8 c.4); (therefore, b.ca.Sept.1833).

The children of Duncan and Margaret McNeil are:

i. Duncan MCNEIL Jr. b. abt 1854/55 in Ontario

ii. Angus MCNEIL b. abt 1856/57

iii. Mary MCNEIL b. abt 1858/59

iv. Catherine MCNEIL b. abt 1860/61. Catherine McNeil died 22 Mar 1880 in Goderich, Huron Co., Ontario. Her death certificate says she was born about 1861 in Paisley, Bruce Co., Ontario. Her death was reported by a James McDonald, from Town of Goderich. This probably an uncle and is likely to be Margaret's brother.

I found a James McDonald who died in Bayfield, Bruce Co., Ontario in 1918. This James was born in 1836 in Prince Edward Island, so it is likely he is the same James that reported Catherine's death, and is likely to be Margaret's brother.

According to James McDonald's death certificate his parents were Angus McDonald and Catherine Mann. I found his likely parents, an Angus McDonald born about 1811 in Colonsay, Scotland who died 16 Mar 1887 in Huron Co., Ontario, and a Catherine McDonald born about 1810 in Scotland, and who died 8 Aug 1884 in Bruce Co., Ontario.

v. Annie MCNEIL b. abt 1862/63

A.] b. 31 July 1864/66; married 31 Oct.1887 in Sarnia to Adaline Proctor, d/o William Proctor & Ellen Sturdy; living in Sarnia in 1891 and 1901; religion Baptist; Allan a laborer in 1891 and a sailor in 1901; children Alan W.
